For Love Your Pet Day this year we heard from Jo, who is on our social media team, about the special pets in her life.
National Love Your Pet Day gives us all the chance to honour the bond between us and our pets, encouraging us to recognise the important role they play in our lives
As humans, one of our finest traits is our ability to love and care for our pets, so 20 February is our opportunity to celebrate the companionship, loyalty and happiness that our pets bring into our lives
Having had pets since I was young, I am continually astonished by the depth of love I hold for the animals I've had in my life, both past and present. From rabbits and guinea pigs to snakes, cats, and dogs, they have consistently brought immense joy and affection into our home. They are undeniably cherished members of our family.
Seven years ago, me and my partner welcomed two pug puppies into our life - I’ve always loved pugs, so when the time came to expand our family, I was able to realise my lifelong dream. Once my partner and I were ready to take on the responsibility of having our own dogs, we devoted a significant amount of time to researching the breed and examining our options. We decided to rescue one pug puppy and collaborated with a reputable breeder to take another who needed support. That’s how Moriarty and Sugar Rae joined our family, and we started our journey together!
Since then, we have experienced so much together as a family, navigating both the highs and lows of life - both human and animal. The overwhelming sentiment my partner and I share is the immense joy and love that Moriarty and Sugar Rae bring into our lives.
We do everything we can to ensure they know how special they are, from their diet and exercise to playtime, and even letting them sleep in our bed. Since they’re with us for such a short time, our top priority is making sure every moment is their best!

On this special day, here are some tips on ways to celebrate Love Your Pet Day!
Spend quality time together, doing what they love best
Use treat balls with their favourite high value treats
Take them on an adventure - find a new place to walk them so they can sniff away!
Take them to a pet-friendly establishment to enjoy time with you and socialise with friends (if able)
Tell your pet why you love them - animals respond to the tone of your voice so shower them with your love and affection in warm tones
Pamper them - extra belly rubs, scratches or a soothing bath and brush
Take pictures with your pets and turn them into a keepsake (cushion/canvas) to have forever
