Exciting new chapter as RATS Animal Rescue opens Ware charity shop to help more animals in need

RATS Animal Rescue, a small, self-funded charity working across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, is opening a new charity shop in Ware on Wednesday 1 April, marking an important new chapter in its work to rescue and rehome animals in need.

The charity takes in dogs, cats and small animals who have been abandoned, neglected or lost, many of whom arrive frightened, unwell or in urgent need of care. With the support of volunteers and foster carers, each animal is given the time, treatment and patience needed to recover and find a loving new home.

The opening of the new Ware shop represents a vital step in supporting that work, with funds raised going directly towards veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and the day-to-day care of animals waiting to be rehomed.

The shop will open its doors at 10am on launch day, welcoming members of the public to browse donated goods and meet the team in a relaxed community atmosphere. At 12 noon, a ribbon-cutting will take place, followed by refreshments including fizz and cake. The shop will remain open until 3pm.

From 2 April onwards, regular opening hours will be Wednesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4pm.

Donations of good-quality items are now being welcomed and can be dropped off at the charity’s kennels at Highfield Kennels, Buntingford SG9 0AD, daily between 9am and 12 noon.

The charity hopes the new shop will become more than a retail space - a place where the community can support its work, whether by donating items, volunteering, or simply choosing to shop in a way that directly helps animals in need.

Speaking ahead of the opening, Anjuli Cooper, Marketing Team Leader at RATS Animal Rescue, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be opening our new charity shop in Ware. This is such an exciting milestone for us and a wonderful opportunity to bring the community closer to the work we do every day.

“Every item donated and every purchase made directly helps us rescue, care for and rehome animals in need. We are so grateful for the continued support that makes everything we do possible.”

Alongside the new Ware store, RATS Animal Rescue also operates an established charity shop in Biggleswade, which continues to play a vital role in supporting its rescue and rehoming work.

The charity relies heavily on community support, fundraising and volunteers to continue its work, with every donation and every purchase helping to provide second chances for vulnerable animals.

Members of the public are warmly encouraged to visit the new shop on launch day, join the celebrations and help spread the word.
