A Wonky Leg and a Whole Heart 💖🤗

Shanti, a one-year-old Shepherd-Type Cross, recently arrived in our care from a rescue in Turkey. She is the sister of our beloved Graff and, just like her brother, she has a gentle soul and loves nothing more than a few treats and a lot of fuss and attention.
If you look closely at her photos, you will see that she has a pronounced bend in one of her front legs. An X-ray in Turkey showed that one leg is longer than the other, most likely something she was simply born with. We have referred the X-rays to our own vet to make sure nothing’s been missed and nothing more needs to be done. What we do know is that Shanti gets around just fine – she’ll just need a gentler pace of life, with shorter strolls rather than marathon walks.
Shanti is still a little timid, but she is gaining in confidence every day. She absolutely loves people and, once she gets to know you, she is the most gentle, cuddly girl. As she is so friendly, we are happy that Shanti can share her home with older children, who will be confident in dealing with a dog of her size. Shanti can certainly share her home with another dog, subject to careful introductions at our kennels in Buntingford.
Shanti has never lived in a house before, so everything about home life will be unfamiliar. She’ll need patience while she learns – housetraining, routines and just the everyday home life that most dogs take for granted will all be new. But we are sure that it won’t take her long to settle into her forever home and become the most loyal companion.

ADOPTION PROCESS
We have a number of animals in our care. Most are homeless through no fault of their own and are looking for furever homes and owners who can give them the love and attention they deserve.
Please take a few moments to familiarise yourself with our adoption process:
Step 1:
The animal is admitted into our care, and assessed by our team.

Step 2:
The animal is examined by a vet, who treats any ailments or injuries.

Step 3:
The appropriate team leader will liaise with the potential adopter to get to know them and assess whether they are a potential purr-fect match.

Step 4:
The potential new owners meet the animal, and decide if they want to adopt. New owners may be asked to visit the animal several times before the adoption takes place.
​
Step 5:
A pre-adoption home visit will then be made to new owners home to meet the members of the household and to ensure that the environment is safe.

Step 6:
If the visit goes well, you will be asked to collect the animal and to make an adoption donation (amount on request) as well as to sign an agreement to care for the pet with a commitment to return them to us if you can't continue to do so.
