Our RATS resident Canine Behaviourist, Kay, is looking for someone who can work with
her to support the charity in their rescue role.
You would ideally need to live close to the Highfield kennels in Buntingford, as this would be where most of the ongoing work would be. You would also need to be able to cover visits to new adoptees and foster carers homes East of Buntingford – mainly the Cambridge/Essex areas.
Training would be given initially in the needs of the kennel dogs, to enable them to progress to settling well in their new homes. You would also be given shadow training when visiting dogs that have gone into new homes, so you would be able to take on this role and enable more support for dogs and their new families. This would be done by our behaviourist to the high standard we require.
We use only positive and force-free training methods, allowing our dogs the time and pace that they can cope with.
Some behaviours you could be learning to work with initially:
-
Lead manners
-
Lack of recall
-
Reactivity towards dogs or people
-
Resource guarding
-
Dealing with anxiety
If this is something you would like to pursue further or are already training, then this is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field and support a wonderful charity.
