Meet Nelly!
GSD X Nelly was a stray who we believe suffered terrible traumas. She arrived in our care emaciated, terrified and covered in painful sores. She was completely shut down, breaking all our hearts into tiny pieces.
With time and a lot of patience, Nelly has become less timid and has started to trust us. She loves treats and now allows us to stroke her gently. It has been wonderful to see her tail come out from between her legs and start to wag when she sees us. Her new family will need to continue to show her that people can be kind and that there’s nothing to be scared of anymore.
Although she is a big dog, she is so gentle and she gets on well with other dogs. In fact, we’d love for her to live with another dog, who can show her the ropes and help her to feel more confident. She hasn’t been cat tested but she could live with older children (over 10 years old) who will respect her anxieties and need for space. We believe that Nelly is around 2 years old.
As Nelly is too frightened to go for walks at the moment, we’re looking for a home with a nice garden - ideally in a rural setting, so she can eventually be introduced to the outside world without it being too overwhelming.
We’ll provide all necessary support to Nelly’s new owners to make sure that she is given the best chance of a happy future. It’s going to take time and hard work to gain her trust and help her overcome her fears, but we’re sure you’ll be rewarded with complete loyalty and devotion. Several visits to our kennels in Buntingford will be needed to establish a trusting relationship with Nelly.

ADOPTION PROCESS
We have a number of animals in our care. Most are homeless through no fault of their own and are looking for furever homes and owners who can give them the love and attention they deserve.
Please take a few moments to familiarise yourself with our adoption process:
Step 1:
The animal is admitted into our care, and assessed by our team.
Step 2:
The animal is examined by a vet, who treats any ailments or injuries.
Step 3:
The appropriate team leader will liaise with the potential adopter to get to know them and assess whether they are a potential purr-fect match.
Step 4:
The potential new owners meet the animal, and decide if they want to adopt. New owners may be asked to visit the animal several times before the adoption takes place.
Step 5:
A pre-adoption home visit will then be made to new owners home to meet the members of the household and to ensure that the environment is safe.
Step 6:
If the visit goes well, you will be asked to collect the animal and to make an adoption donation (amount on request) as well as to sign an agreement to care for the pet with a commitment to return them to us if you can't continue to do so.
