Meet Bert!
The Gentle Soul with a Heart of Gold

Bert is an adorable black lurcher who came into our care recently with his brother Ernie. Bert and Ernie were born in April this year, so they are still just puppies and it is safe to say that they have captured the hearts of everyone at the kennels. We think that they are whippet crosses, which means they will be medium sized when they finish growing.

This gorgeous boy has a beautiful temperament, although he is a bit more timid than his brother. Traffic and busy roads can be a bit much for this sensitive soul, but he thoroughly enjoys his walks once he is out across the fields. Whilst he loves playing in the field, it is the company of people that he really wants – he will quietly follow you and he will occasionally give your hand the gentlest of nudges, just to remind you that he is there.

Fuss and attention are probably Bert’s favourite thing. He is happiest when he is snuggled up on the sofa and he will often fall asleep when he is being stroked. His gentle nature means he will be perfect for families with children. He has also shown wonderful manners around other dogs at the kennels so he can certainly live with another similar sized dog in his new home, subject to careful introductions at our kennels in Buntingford.

If you are looking for a loyal shadow, a cuddle expert, and a sweet-natured companion who’ll appreciate the quieter things in life, Bert is waiting to meet you.

ADOPTION PROCESS

We have a number of animals in our care. Most are homeless through no fault of their own and are looking for furever homes and owners who can give them the love and attention they deserve.

Please take a few moments to familiarise yourself with our adoption process:

Step 1:

The animal is admitted into our care, and assessed by our team.

Step 2:

The animal is examined by a vet, who treats any ailments or injuries.

Step 3:

The appropriate team leader will liaise with the potential adopter to get to know them and assess whether they are a potential purr-fect match.

Step 4:

The potential new owners meet the animal, and decide if they want to adopt. New owners may be asked to visit the animal several times before the adoption takes place.

Step 5:

A pre-adoption home visit will then be made to new owners home to meet the members of the household and to ensure that the environment is safe.

Step 6:

If the visit goes well, you will be asked to collect the animal and to make an adoption donation (amount on request) as well as to sign an agreement to care for the pet with a commitment to return them to us if you can't continue to do so.
