~ Toby & the Hitchin Miniaturists ~

I received a telephone call ‘out of the blue’ from Sally Stretton one evening in January. She told me she was part of the Hitchin Miniaturists Society and that they had produced a ‘block of flats’ during their meetings. Each member of the society was given a ‘flat’ to decorate and these had been fixed together to create the ‘block’.

Sally had been approached by a Dolls Fair organiser and asked if the group would be interested in exhibiting the block of flats at their forthcoming fair which was to be held at Plinstone Hall, Letchworth. Sally told the organisers that yes they would be very interested and would it be possible to ask for contributions for a good cause from the patrons of the event. After a little bit of consideration the event organisers agreed and Sally kindly recommended RATS to be the recipient of any donations raised. Hence her phone call to me!

The miniaturists required some information on our organisation and also on some of the animals which had been recently re-homed. A donation box was also requested. This was arranged and taken over to Sally before the event.

Block of Flats

The Hitchin Miniaturists ‘Block of Flats’ exhibit.

Liz, our Cat Team Leader, and I visited the Dolls Fair at Plinstone Hall. The display looked great and the miniaturists had given out several sets of our contact details and had had a very good response both with regards to enquiries and donations. So why did Sally choose RATS as the beneficiary? The answer is simple! Sally and her husband adopted Toby, a boxer dog, from RATS several years ago.

Toby............Toby...........Toby off to work

Toby is now 10 years old and has become a much loved member of the family and takes an active role in everything even to the extent of going to work with Sally’s husband. Sally and her family are moving to Cypress this year – Toby is, of course, emigrating with them. So I would like, not only to take this opportunity of thanking the Hitchin Miniaturists for thinking of us and working very hard for us by raising the grand sum of £76.88 but also of wishing Sally, Toby and family all the best with the relocation to Cypress.

So all that remains to be said is: Thank You, Bon Voyage and Good Luck!

Philippa Exley - R.A.T.S. Secretary
