~ Tara Wheeler - R.A.T.S. Fundraising Autograph Website - An Update! ~

In a previous newsletter I wrote an article regarding Tara Wheeler and her novel idea for raising money for R.A.T.S.

During May 2006 Tara and her family adopted one of our cats – named Marshmellow (on adoption Marshmellow had been renamed as Sulley) – and, as a thank you, she wanted to help to raise some money for R.A.T.S.

Being an avid autograph collector her idea to help raise money was to continue collecting autographs but instead of keeping them for herself she had would auction them off on e-bay and give the money raised to R.A.T.S. We, of course, accepted Tara’s kind offer and Tara managed to obtain autographs from lots of different celebrities including David Tennant (the present Dr Who – also very well known for his role of Casanova), Robert Glenister, Derek Jacobi, the great David Jason and another Dr Who: Colin Baker.

To top it all – following my former article in the R.A.T.S. Newsletter - Tara was contacted by one of our members, Thelma Phillips, who donated an autograph book from the 1930's and also a wonderful stitch pattern piece which also went into the auditions. I believe the autograph book had some very famous autographs including Richard Attenborough!

For our part in order to help Tara R.A.T.S. set up a ‘Missionfish’ account (a special account on e-bay especially designed for Charities) and the autographs went on sale at the beginning of 2009. Tara raised the grand total of £132.00 – which was a wonderful result.

All that remains is to thank Thelma Phillips for her kind donation and, of course, Tara for all of her hard work and to congratulate her on her outstanding effort on behalf of R.A.T.S.
