Well, 2006 was a disaster as far as outside shows were concerned due to the very erratic weather. We actually lost 3 gazebo's through buckling metalwork - a thing that we do not want to happen again.
So it was with some trepidation that we 'weather-watched' over the last few weeks and as you know it has not been very kind to us (although I know if we had been in Hull we would have been floating).
The forecast was wind on Friday and good weather for the weekend, which was exactly what happened. Due to the wind on Friday we went to 'plan z' and did not erect the tents that evening. We just got up even earlier on the Saturday and started from scratch then.
We had a 'win a furry friend' every time, which went very well. People would not buy a cuddly toy for a pound each, but are quite happy to win one!! We took a lot of animal-orientated goods such as pet beds, cat carriers, leads, harnesses, brushes etc. etc. and these went very well. Pictures and bric-a-brac, books, videos etc. also went although more slowly. The marmalade and jam made by Helen went and we did a roaring trade in dog bandanna's.
We do not see events in the area - racing pigs, horse show, dog show etc., so are unable to report on this. Stalls of all descriptions are there from various types of food stalls, garden furniture, animal products, china, crafts etc. etc. The first year we went we felt that there were more people there - and stalls, but we do not have to pay, so it is only our time.
Over the weekend we took four hundred and twenty-nine pounds, so this was worthwhile. Later in the season we are doing Ashwell Show and Gransden Show. It is good to keep our name before people and if we can house just one animal from a show then this makes it even better.
