R.A.T.S. Sanctuary:
I am delighted to announce that we now own Sanctuary comprising of Kennels and Cattery! This is great news for our 25th year.
The kennel/cattery sits in a 2-acre plot on the outskirts of Buntingford, Hertfordshire. It has a bungalow which Mandy and Walter Guntley will occupy as they will look after the kennels. The remainder of the plot comprises approximate 48 dog accommodation including runs, and 20 cat accommodation. The site also boasts its own grooming area, food preparation room and office.
Two of the kennel blocks have their own enclosed grassed exercise area at their rear and this will enable the dogs to stay outside - weather permitting. There is also a paddock which is about half an acre in size.
As the property has not been in use for about 8 months there is quite a lot of work to be carried out. We will be grateful for any help that anyone can offer. The immediate work required consists of repairs to fencing etc, painting, cleaning and generally tidying up.

I hasten to add that we intend the cattery to be for adult cats only, with kittens still being cared for by Irene Byrne who has gained all the experience necessary over the years for looking after the 'mums' and kittens. I would like to thank Irene for also taking in some of the older cats whilst we have been without a fosterer, which I know has put her under pressure with all the time needed to care for both kittens and adult cats.
Once we have the cattery area tidies up and ready at the new site, we will look for someone in the Buntingford area to go in to care for the cats each day so that they ca have plenty of individual care. Mandy and Walter will have enough to do looking after the dogs without the cats also.
We hope to have the dog side of the operation up and running towards the end of September, with the cats following at a later date to be advised.
I would like to say a big thank you to Nikki Hurst who has assisted me greatly with the process of securing the property which entailed a lot of negotiating to secure the deal. Thanks also go to Roger Williams, who regularly helps at the Biggleswade Shop, for his assistance helping me with some immediate works at the kennels which are still on-going.
My thanks also goes to the Hound Hotel for all the support they have given R.A.T.S. over the years.
Finally, the biggest thank you must go out to all members and supporters, past and present, who have financially enabled us to reach our goal.
If you would like to help in any way please contact me (Les Robinson - Chairman) on 01234 871174 after 6pm or email: info.rats@gmail.com
