~ Highfields Update ~

Over the summer we have been filling the gardens with more plants adding extra colour and also benches and tables in the paddock, which everyone loves, especially the walkers who often go to the one nearest the kennels on their return from walking to give the dogs an extra cuddle hence the cuddle bench!

For our sponsored walk in July the paddock looked wonderful, very green and welcoming for our walkers, everyone enjoyed the time they spent with their dogs and making new friends and the BBQ was a great success.

We are now in the process of having improvements made to the outside runs of the kennel blocks, they are being upgraded to include new floors and drainage, therefore making it easy to clean and cosier for the dogs, in the last storm one of the walls was damaged, so this has also been replaced, and to make sure that this does not happen to the rest of the kennels we had to strengthen the other walls.  We have enclosed some before and after pictures so you can see our progress.

Our next job is to the ceiling and new lighting in the gangways of the kennels, making it altogether cleaner and lighter for humans and dogs!

We are also preparing the ground and then will put up fences for the third back run.
Our dog rehoming this year has been good and we continue to have a wonderful band of dog walkers, some coming every day and others when they can manage it, and of course, our lovely Cassie is now in the home of one of our dog walkers and loving every minute of it, still going strong and enjoying her walks! Anne, who looks after her still manages to get down to the kennels each week to walk other dogs.

We have rehomed 38 dogs in the first nine months of this year, this is one dog a week.

After!

We try to home our dogs as quickly as possible sometimes they need socialising or training before we can look for suitable homes for them and this takes time.  But earlier in the year a little dog called Ruby came in we had someone waiting for a small dog and she came to visit two hours after Ruby came in, she had lost her RATS dog so she did not need checking again, so it was love at first sight and Ruby was off to her new home, Walter and Mandy think this is a record for our rehoming.
